Please join us as Daryl Hilsher from Longeneckers Hatchery shares with our members and guests the unique history of Longeneckers Hatchery.
Clayton M. Longenecker began Longeneckers Hatchery in 1918 from a location on Bainbridge Street. In 1920 he purchased property on South Market Street at Ridge Road and erected a modern hatchery building on it.
Longenecker specialized in Baron Single Comb White Leghorns. In the 1920's chicks were hatched only in the spring and early summer and shipped to customers in many eastern states.
Mr. Hilsher will explain the growth of the industry and how hatcheries have evolved over the decades. The hatchery is located today at 1110 South Market Street , Elizabethtown.
